Today our wonderful host, Miki, prepared us a Japanese breakfast (miso soup, rice, natto, egg, and sausage)! It was one of the best breakfasts we've had so far on this trip and it really started off our morning right. Thank you Miki! Miki already left for work by the time we were heading out so we said good-bye to Mei-chan (Miki's cute cat) and hit the road right after our delicious meal.
Our last stop before officially leaving Massachusetts was The Ikeda Center near Harvard University. The Center publishes works of Daisaku Ikeda and also hosts events centered around peace, culture, and dialogue. After a tour of the center, we began our journey to Virginia.
It felt like we caught every single red light as we left Boston, but driving on the highway was alright, except for some light rain showers, detours, and road construction. But it was definitely better than being caught up in a rain storm! And the greenery as we passed by in Connecticut, New York, Pennsylvania, and Maryland was beautiful! There was a portion of the scenery that Nics saw as she was driving, where there was a sea of trees about the same height with a light fog cast over them. It seemed like a dinosaur could pop right out from a place like that. Specifically a velociraptor.
As we neared our destination, our GPS, Himawari (Yes, she has a name. And yes, it's Japanese), went a little berserk and was about a mile off from the actual location of our host's home. So after circling around 3 times, we finally managed to find our destination. We had a late dinner of chicken soup and instant spicy bowl noodles. That undergrad throwback. After planning out what we want to do/see in DC tomorrow and prepping for our next volunteer activity, it's time to call it a night.
[TKC Road Trip Pro-Tip #3: Have trash bags in your car. And have a lot of them. Also, separate bags for trash and recyclables are encouraged.]
Excited for our busy day tomorrow!
